Of course age is factor. But wrinkles and frown lines don’t simply mean you’re getting older. They’re caused by repeated facial expressions—movements and muscle contractions, which means they can even develop in younger adults. Frown lines, often called “elevens,” or glabellar lines, are caused by the repeated movement of underlying muscles. It’s the mark of an expressive face. Dysport lets you keep the expressions and lose the evidence.

In the same way that Botox treats hyperactive muscles that cause wrinkling, so does this latest injectable, with the use of an acetylcholine release inhibitor and a neuromuscular blocking agent to relax facial muscles that cause frowns and lines. Dysport has been used successfully around the world, and was FDA-approved in April 2009. It is currently Botox’s only competitor on the market.

So, how does this product compare with Botox? Some medical professionals feel that Dysport works faster, and may provide longer correction. Others conclude there is little difference and that the two products are fairly comparable. Yet, most medical professionals agree that there are certain differences in the size of the toxin molecule and that Dysport is a bit trickier to use than Botox. That’s where it pays to work with an expert injector like Lisa Topham. Topham received extensive training in 2009 with Dysport expert and injector Dr. Michael Fiorello, and has been finessing her technique with it ever since.*

Microtox: There is another way to use Dysport, and it’s called Microtox.  Essentially, the injector dilutes the Dysport and injects it directly into the skin of the neck, cheeks, and around the mouth to smooth out the skin vs. muscle. There is a “shrink-wrap” effect. Microtox is also used frequently around the décolletage to smooth out wrinkles around the chest area. Interestingly, This treatment is also quite effective for Rosacea, enlarged pores, and acne.*

Questions? Lisa Topham feels that an in-depth consultation is the only way to determine which product is best for you. Her many years of experience in the field of facial rejuvenation, facial anatomy, and injectables make Topham the go-to practitioner of injectables in Connecticut.*
